Cellulite is characterized by unsightly dimples that appear primarily on the thighs and buttocks. Many women are bothered by this orange peel appearance and wish to have it treated. But is this even possible? Are there effective methods to improve the skin's appearance?

In this article, we summarize the available cellulite treatments and their promising benefits. We also introduce you to skin689's anti-cellulite cream and show you how its revolutionary active ingredients can reduce the appearance of cellulite.

The essentials in brief:

  • What are the causes of cellulite? Many women have a genetic predisposition to cellulite, so it often appears for no apparent reason.
  • The severity of cellulite at a glance: Cellulite can occur in three different stages and vary in severity.
  • Treating cellulite: Can exercise help? Yes, exercise can help fight cellulite – but it doesn’t work for everyone.

Buttocks, thighs, arms: What causes cellulite?

Cellulite, also known as orange peel skin, is a change in the skin's surface. Dimples form, primarily on the thighs, buttocks, and upper arms.

Cellulite is not a medical condition, but a purely aesthetic problem. Many women affected by cellulite are bothered by the altered skin surface and wish for a smoother appearance.

But how does cellulite actually develop? Because women have softer connective tissue than men, cellulite develops much more quickly in women than in men. Many women even have a genetic predisposition to cellulite—the dimples develop even without excess weight or a lot of fatty tissue.

These always occur when fat cells exert pressure on the connective tissue. The connective tissue fibers in the subcutaneous tissue are pushed aside, and the fat cells protrude – thus creating the dimpling in the skin.

An estimated 80 to 95% of all women are affected by cellulite. If you'd like to learn more about cellulite, its tissue, and skin structure, you'll find many interesting articles on these topics here:

Overview of the severity of cellulite

Before considering cellulite treatment options, you should determine whether you have cellulite at all and what degree it is. This is an important consideration in treatment – depending on the severity, different methods may be suitable for you. We'll summarize the different degrees of cellulite for you.

Stage I

In stage 1 cellulite, the skin is smooth when standing. Only when sitting down do the small indentations appear. Cellulite is also visible when pinching the skin.

stage II

If cellulite is visible even when standing, it's stage 2. The dimples in the affected areas are visible even without pinching or sitting. However, they are invisible when lying down.

Stage III

In the third stage of cellulite, the dimples are clearly visible when standing and lying down. In addition, the affected skin is sagging and has an irregular surface. Nodules may also be felt under the skin, and some women also complain of pain.

Treating cellulite: Can exercise help?

When it comes to treating cellulite, you probably first think of exercise. In fact, exercising the affected areas can actually help with mild forms of cellulite. Cellulite is caused by subcutaneous fat, and reducing this fat can improve the appearance of your skin.

You can do endurance or strength training. The important thing is that you feel comfortable with the sport and choose sports that you enjoy.

Keep in mind, however, that exercise can't always combat cellulite. If you have a genetic predisposition and weak connective tissue, exercise won't make cellulite disappear.

If this is the case for you, then in addition to exercise you can also try skin689's innovative products for the treatment of cellulite:

Are massages and contrast showers effective?

If you want to combat your cellulite, massages and contrast showers could also help. Both are popular methods for all types of cellulite.

During a massage, the affected tissue is mechanically stimulated. Some patients report that this can improve cellulite. This also applies to massages with special brushes. These are supposed to stimulate blood circulation – however, there is currently no clinical evidence that massages can permanently reduce cellulite. However, if you want to reduce the appearance of cellulite, massages might still be worth a try.

This also applies to contrast showers. These also stimulate circulation and can help if you want to treat your cellulite. To do this, alternate between pouring cold and warm water over the affected areas. Always finish with cold water. Whether contrast showers help in the fight against cellulite is also unproven.

One of the most exciting is CHacoll® – which skin689 uses exclusively – it works via a multi-stage mechanism and a communication cascade in the skin and helps specifically where weak connective tissue with a lack of elasticity can promote the spread of fat lobules and increased water retention, thus intensifying the appearance of cellulite.
